Drug & Alcohol Testing

NON-DOT urine-based drug screens and lab tests are available in a variety of panels including 7, 8, 12, and additional drug analytes. Sample and test integrity are ensured with a thorough pre-test check of each employee, as well as through the use of an adulterant check product. U.S. DOT and oral fluid lab-based drug testing is also available. All collections are completed in accordance with U.S. DOT Regulations / Canadian Industry standards and are performed by certified collectors.

Chandler Consulting Inc. provides urine or oral fluid confirmation testing for inconclusive screening tests. All lab tests and confirmations are completed by our contracted laboratory, Dynacare Medical Laboratories, using a GC/MS testing process.

Reports are sent to our contracted Medical Review Officer who will contact the employee directly to complete the MRO interview process (for all positive results / prescription medications).

Breath alcohol testing is provided by certified Breath Alcohol Technicians using devices listed on NHTSA’s confirming products list.

Our result turnaround times are exemplary, with drug screen and breath alcohol results reported within one hour of completion and lab based negative results reported next business day. Positive lab-based test results are reported within 2-5 business days of the sample’s arrival at the laboratory.

RN Health Assessments

Pre-placement Health Assessments are available to determine the prospective employee’s fitness for duty. A baseline record of an individual’s general health, physical condition, and pre-existing injuries or risk factors will be established.  An individual’s physical capacity to perform a particular job is assessed using various evaluation methods including a musculoskeletal assessment, lifting assessment, and back fitness evaluation.

The employee is classified accordingly to their performance on the evaluation tools and their ability to complete the Physical Demands of the position. Skills related to physical accident prevention are discussed as needed with employee or employer.

Concerns with employee health will be identified and the employee will be provided with a Physician Referral form (to be completed by the employee’s physician). Risk factors and health concerns are communicated to the employer.

Certain field positions require a higher level of physical fitness to meet the physical demands of the position. A more rigorous Physical Fitness Screening is available to be provided in conjunction with the Pre-Placement Health Assessment. This intensive Physical Fitness Screening will assess aerobic fitness and will also include an in-depth lifting and carrying assessment, arm and shoulder strength evaluation, and flexibility/range of motion assessment.

All health assessments and physical fitness screening completed at our Nationwide Network facilities are reviewed by our in-house Occupational Health Coordinator prior to being reported. This additional step ensures that all assessments are classified consistently regardless of the location in which they were completed.

Audiometric Testing

In order to comply with Occupational Health and Safety Noise Regulations, an employer needs to ensure that noise-exposed workers undergo audiometric testing on a scheduled basis.  Chandler Consulting Inc. will provide audiometric (hearing) testing to protect the employee from needless loss of hearing due to occupational noise exposure and to protect the employer from the high costs of hearing loss claims.

Audiometric testing is performed by Registered Audiometric Technicians. All abnormal audiometric results are referred to a qualified Audiologist for review and the employee is notified of audiologist recommendations confidentially through the workplace.

As mandated by Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, cumulative testing reports are completed for all noise-exposed workers and kept on file.

Our Audiometric Management software program allows us to provide re-test reports quarterly (or monthly if desired), thus helping you to remain in compliance with OH&S health surveillance requirements.

All Audiometric tests completed at our Nationwide Network facilities are reviewed by our in-house Occupational Health Coordinator prior to being reported. This additional step ensures that all tests are classified consistently regardless of the location in which they were completed.

Pulmonary Function testing (PFT) / Spirometry

When workers are exposed to potentially harmful airborne contaminants, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations require Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) / Spirometry (lung function) be undertaken as part of a medical assessment.   PFT / Spirometry may also be recommended to assess suitability of your worker to wear respiratory protective equipment.

PFT / Spirometry testing is performed by Certified Spirometry Technicians. All abnormal PFT / spirometry results are referred to our contracted Occupational Health Physician for review and the employee is notified of physician recommendations confidentially in a mailed letter.

All PFT / Spirometry tests completed at our Nationwide Network facilities are reviewed by our in-house Occupational Health Coordinator prior to being reported. This additional step ensures that all tests are classified consistently regardless of the location in which they were completed.

Respirator Mask fit testing / Fitness to wear respirator evaluations

When workers are exposed to potentially harmful airborne contaminants, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations require these exposed workers be protected by wearing a respirator. This testing must be done on a scheduled basis.

Quantitative Respirator Mask Fit Testing & Respiratory Health Surveillance services are available to meet CSA standard Z94.4-02. Quantitative mask fit testing is available on several brands and models of respirators.

Prior to mask fit testing and respirator use it is important to ensure that a worker is free from physiological or psychological conditions that may preclude the worker from using the selected respirator.

In accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, a Fitness to Wear Respiratory Evaluation is completed prior to every respirator mask fit test.

Quantitative Respirator Mask Fit Testing is performed by qualified technicians. Potential issues or concerns are referred to our contracted Occupational Health Physician for review and will be reported back to the employer.

All Quantitative Respirator Mask Fit tests completed at our Nationwide Network facilities are reviewed by our in-house Occupational Health Coordinator prior to being reported. Our respirator surveillance program allows us to provide re-test reports quarterly (or monthly if desired), thus helping you to remain in compliance with OH&S health surveillance requirements.

Silica Exposure Testing

When workers are exposed to Silica dust above the Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) as indicated in the Occupational Health & Safety Code, baseline Silica Exposure testing and periodic health surveillance must be completed. Silica Exposure Testing consists of a Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) / Spirometry, a Chest X-ray, and a Physician’s Evaluation (Silica Screen).

Chandler Consulting Inc. will provide the pulmonary function test at one of our Nationwide Network facilities and will facilitate the Chest X-ray at a nearby imaging center.  Upon completion, these test results will be sent to our contracted Occupational Health Physician for review and completion of the Silica Screen. In the event of an abnormal result, the employee will be notified confidentially in a mailed letter.

Silica Exposure program development and implementation is also available. Our Silica surveillance program allows us to provide re-test reports quarterly (or monthly if desired), thus helping you to remain in compliance with OH&S health surveillance requirements.

Heavy Metals Testing

Many industries utilize chemicals or processes that exposure workers to heavy metals such as lead, mercury, copper, or zinc. These industries include construction, mining, radiator repair shops, and firing ranges.

Heavy metal testing (trace metal analysis) is used to screen for the presence of various naturally occurring metals in employees, monitor exposure to these metals, or evaluate suspected heavy metal toxicity in employees who may have been exposed to them in the workplace.

Chandler Consulting Inc. has contracted the services of several laboratories to provide this blood testing. We will provide the requisition form to the employee and the results will be reported from the laboratory to Chandler Consulting Inc. This information will then be reported to the appropriate company DER.

After Hours / on site testing

Drug and alcohol on call collection services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week at our Corporate office. Emergency post-incident and reasonable cause testing services (drug and alcohol) are available throughout our Nationwide Network and will be managed through our Corporate office.

Collectors/technicians are available to provide onsite testing services for groups of 8 employees or more.  Individual quotes for service are provided prior to service delivery.

Chandler will provide all forms necessary to effectively manage positive tests. These documents include a Positive Test Notice (“invitation to Substance Abuse Assessment letter”), which is sent with every confirmed positive test, as well as Medical Clearance forms which may be required for employees taking prescription medications.
